Most ethics trainings focus on avoiding harm.

This course explores what ethical practice can become when we understand the quieter ways harm happens through misunderstanding, masking, misattunement, and the assumptions built into traditional models of care.

Ethics is about more than following a code. It’s about the relationships we create, the assumptions we carry, and whether the people sitting across from us feel safe enough to tell us the truth.

We’ll explore how masking, sensory experience, identity, relationship, and creativity reshape ethical decision-making when working with neurodivergent and gender-expansive clients —and how expressive and relational approaches can help them experience therapy as a place where they no longer have to disappear in order to belong.

You’ll leave with practical (and fun!) expressive arts interventions, a deeper understanding of the ethical complexity when working within these populations, and an intersectional clinical lens you can bring directly into your work with neurodivergent and gender-expansive clients.

  • Our first course — Ethics Beyond the Norm: Working with Neuroqueer Clients Through Expressive and Relational Practice  — is a 6-hour live online continuing education training for licensed mental health professionals. It provides an intersectional clinical framework for working with neurodivergent and gender-expansive clients, with practical expressive arts interventions you can bring directly into your practice.

    Over 6 hours you'll explore how overlapping identities, masking, and systemic influences affect clinical presentation, identity development, and mental health. You'll examine how expressive arts interventions support regulation, nonverbal processing, and therapeutic engagement — and you'll leave with at least three concrete interventions you can adapt for your own clients. The training also addresses scope of competence, ethical considerations, and culturally responsive practice throughout.

  • Yes! This program has been approved for six credit hours in ethics by the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC).

  • Mandy Parida, MA, LMHC — licensed mental health counselor and expressive arts therapist with decades of experience working with neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ individuals across developmental stages. Mandy has been in private practice since 2014 and is the Founder of Different on Purpose. Trained in psychodrama and sociometry through the Zerka T. Moreno Foundation and in existential psychotherapy through the Institute of Existential Psychotherapy.
